Frequently Asked Questions

  1. I’ve noticed bubbles in my pump prefilter recently. Why is this happening, and what should I do?

This could be due to one of two issues:

    1. An air leak in the suction line before the pump.
    2. A phenomenon called "cavitation," often caused by a blocked pipe.To resolve this, check for any leaks in the pipes and seals upstream of the pump, and ensure the pipes are clear of obstructions.
  2. Should I upgrade to a more powerful pump when replacing my current one?

No, upgrading to a more powerful pump can actually reduce filtration quality, as water would flow too quickly through the filter. Pumps are specifically matched to work optimally with their filters.

However, you could consider switching to a variable-speed pump. These pumps run at lower speeds continuously, making them very quiet and reducing electricity consumption by up to 85%*.

*Savings of around 65% are typical.

  3. My pump won’t start and makes a groaning noise. What should I do?

This is often due to a faulty starting capacitor.

To confirm, try manually starting the pump by gently pushing the fan with an Allen key. If the pump starts running, it’s time to replace the capacitor.

  4. I’ve noticed a water leak under my pump. What should I do?

If the leak is coming from the bottom of the pump, it’s likely due to a worn rotary joint (mechanical seal). To fix this, you’ll need either a replacement seal or a complete joint kit, which includes all necessary seals.

This is a relatively straightforward repair, but if you’re not comfortable with DIY tasks, it’s best to contact a pool technician. Address the issue promptly to prevent motor damage.

A leak at the seal often happens when the pump has run without water. It’s essential to keep water flowing through the pump, especially during priming.
